(Trinidad Express) – The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) yesterday advised caution in the reporting on the progress of the investigation into the murder of attorney Dana Seetahal. According to a police statement, the media reports over the weekend involving the ongoing police investigation into the murder of Senior Counsel Dana Seetahal, were inconsistent with the progress of the investigation thus far and manifest obvious distortions with material facts of the case.
Seetahal was found dead with gunshot wounds to the body in her vehicle on May 4, 2014, at the corner of Hamilton Holder and O’Connor streets, Woodbrook, and the murder has been the subject of an intense investigation with a view to bringing the perpetrator/s to justice.
The TTPS said the naming of any officer/individual from any agency or organisation who may or may not be assisting with the investigation was extremely irresponsible.
Commissioner of Police (Ag) Stephen Williams is mindful of the legitimate public interest attending the investigation; and in this regard, urges restraint in any form of media reporting or commentary and calls for an absence of speculation which could possibly hamper the investigation, the release said.
Williams sought to assure members of the public that the investigation continues to be treated with the highest priority.
He stated that upon completion of the investigation the case file will be submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions for review and direction following which a public statement will be made.
