I’m calling on the government for the declaration of a “national day of mourning and prayers” for the six children and teacher who died in the accident last week.
The highest honour that the government of President Donald Ramotar can bestow on these children and teacher is to declare a national day of mourning and prayers and to raise the Guyana flag at half mast in all government offices as well as public schools.
A national day of mourning and prayers can be the country’s way of extending condolences to the families of the deceased.
The National Day of Mourning should be a “silent day” – this means that in all regions of Guyana music, alcohol or dance events should be prohibited.
