A miner will learn his fate today for selling his boss’ tools after he claimed that he was denied payment for months of work.
Quacy Jaundoo, 27, yesterday denied breaking and entering the property of George Gill, at Upper Essequibo River, but admitted to stealing a quantity of tools valued $1,070,000.
Jaundoo told Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in Georgetown that he worked with Gill but his wages were withheld for over four months. He added that throughout the Christmas season, he received no money and was left in the backdam and although he begged his employer to send money for his family, the request was denied.
Jaundoo said that Gill left him in charge of the tools and after he had no money, he decided to sell the tools to obtain money for transportation to go home.
After listening to his explanation, the Chief Magistrate told the accused that he will be remanded to prison until today, when a probation report is expected to be given to the court before sentencing.
