Speedboat and Floodlight ran out winners of the Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Assoc-iation (GFSCA) Open and Over40 competitions Saturday at the Demerara Cricket Club ground, Queenstown.
In the final of the five-overs-a-side competition Speedboat defeated Countryside by 19 runs.
Speedboat, batting first, scored 80 without loss from their allotted five overs with Greg Singh top scoring with an even half century.
Singh blasted five sixes and two fours in his match winning knock while
Countryside, in reply, were restricted to 61 for 5 from their allotted five overs with Sachin Ramcharan top scoring with 35.
On their way to the final Speedboat defeated Regal and Wolf Warriors.
In the Over-40 final, Floodlight defeated Regal Masters by eight wickets in a last ball thriller.
Regal, batting first, scored 96 for 3 from their allotted 10 overs with Eric Thomas top scoring with 40. Eon Abel and Raymond Harper chipped in with 17 and 14 runs respectively.
Ramesh Narine took 2 for 11 for Floodlight, who, in reply, reached 98 for 2 from their allotted 10 overs. Unnis Yusuf led the way with 50, an innings which included three sixes and four fours.
John Sumair supported with 15 not out.
Floodlight had earlier secured victories over Tropical Springs and Parika Defenders.
The one-day tournament attracted 14 teams and the winners in each category took home $50,000 while the runners up Countryside and Regal Masters received $15,000 each.
This GFSCA one day/night 16 teams tournament will be played once monthly at the DCC ground. The next competition is billed for March 22 starting at noon.
