The Good Hope teenaged girl who was severely burnt while attempting to strain a pot of rice two weeks ago has been hospitalized.
According to the head of the Child Care and Protection Agency (CC&PA) Ann Greene, Child Care officials are set to visit the school the child was said to be attending to ascertain if she usually went to school.
Greene also stated that the agency was carrying out an assessment of the house where the teen lived and to see if they would need to remove her from the care of her parents.
The Good Hope, East Coast Demerara teenager was reportedly denied medical treatment by her parents for two weeks. The 13-year-old suffered burns from her breasts down and is currently being treated in the hospital.
She was rescued on Tuesday by child care workers after a concerned resident contacted Stabroek News on Monday and related the story.
The resident stated that the parents were drug-addicts and had refused to take the child to the hospital or accept help from neighbours. The resident stated that the child would be heard hollering in pain on a daily basis. She said she learnt that milk was poured on the burns and the child would be placed in front of a fan. The woman also stated that the young girl and two other children living in the house do not attend school.
