Britton wins men’s singles at Mash TT competition

Southpaw Shemar Britton on Sunday stopped national men’s singles champion Nigel Bryan to win the men’s singles title as the National Sports Commission Mashramani table tennis competition ended at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

Britton won by four games to two.

Kyle Edghill and Elishaba Johnson, the losing semi-finalists were declared joint third place finishers.

In the women’s singles competition Chelsea Edghill swept past Natalie Cummings in four straight games to cop the women’s singles title.

Kristie Lopes and Selenas Jackman were joint third.

Edghill made it two titles when she won the girls 18 years and under title brother Kyle won the 18 years and under boys singles title defeating rising star Alec Hopkinson.

Stefan Corlette won the Open 21 years and under title while Miguel Wong and Tyriq Saunders were the winners of the boys 15 years and under and 13 years and under categories.

 

 

Results as are follows:-

 

Men’s singles final: Shemar Britton defeated Nigel Bryan 12-10, 11-6, 11-7, 17-19, 9-11, 11-3 (4-2).

Joint third place went to Elishaba Johnson and Kyle Edghill.

Semi-finals: Britton defeated Edghill 11-5, 7-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-8 (4-1) and Bryan defeated Johnson 11-4, 11-6, 6-11, 11-6, 11-7 (4-1).

Quarter-finals: Britton defeated Edinho Lewis 15-13,11-5,7-11,9-11,11-8,11-7 (4-2); Colin France lost to Kyle Edghill 11-8,11-9,8-11,7-11,11-6,10-12,6-11 (3-4); Miguel Wong lost to Elishaba Johnson 5-11,5-11,6-11,11-9,9-11 (1-4) and Orin Hickerson lost to Bryan 3-11,6-11,5-11,11-9,11-6,8-11 (2-4).

Last 16: Britton defeated Remy Taitt (3-0), Sheldon Atherly lost to Lewis (0-3), France defeated Brandon Belle (3-2), Alec Hopkinson lost by a walk over to Kyle Edghill, Joel Alleyne lost to Wong (1-3), Xenophen Goliath lost to Johnson (0-3), Stefan Corlette lost to Hickerson (0-3) and Gibran Sarfraz lost to Bryan (0-3).

 

Women’s singles final: Chelsea Edghill defeated Natalie Cummings 11-2, 11-9, 11-3, 11-9, (4-0).

Joint third place went to Kristie Lopes and Selenas Jackman.

Semi-finals: Edghill defeated Lopes 11-6, 11-3, 11-6, 11-4 (4-0) and Cummings defeated Jackman 12-10, 11-5, 11-4, 11-1 (4-0).

Boys 13 years and under final: Tyriq Saunders defeated Terrence Rausch 12-10, 11-8, 11-9 (3-0).

Joint third place went to Niran Bissu and Jonathan Findley.

Boys 15 years and under final: Wong defeated Jeremey Singh 11-7, 11-3, 11-7.

Joint third place went to Terrence Rausch and Tyriq Saunders.

 

Girls 15 years and under final: Kristie Lopes defeated Selenas Jackman 13 15, 11-9, 9-11, 11-5, 11-7 (3-2).

 

Joint third place went to Aneka Phillips and Davonna Bess.

 

Girls 18 years and under final: Chelsea Edghill defeated Priscilla Greaves 11-9, 11-6, 11-4, 11-3 (4-0).

Joint third place went to Lopes and Jamaali Homer

 

Boys 18 years and under final: Kyle Edghill defeated Hopkinson 11-7, 11-7, 11-6, 11-9 (4-0).

Joint third place went to Wong and Singh.

 

Open 21 years and under final: Corlette defeated Johnson 11-7, 5-11, 11-4, 12-14, 11-3, 12-10 (4-2).

 

Joint third place went to Wong and Kyle Edghill

 

Mixed doubles junior final Kyle/Chelsea Edghill defeated Elishaba Johnson/Kristie Lopes 11-5, 11-9, 12-10, (3-0).

Joint third place went to Hopkinson/Greaves and Nicholas Romain/Selenas Jackman.

 

Girls doubles semi-final: Edghill/Lopes defeated Greaves/Homer 11-4, 12-10, 9-11, 11-2 (3-1).

 

Joint third place went to Aneka Phillips/Simran Bissu and Davonna Bess/Selenas Jackman.

According to a press release from the organisers the presentation of trophies and medals will take place at a later date.
