The eight-year-old girl who was raped on Tuesday afternoon by a relative has stopped haemorrhaging and is recovering in the hospital.
The girl was raped by the relative at her home in Six Miles, Arakaka, North West District, while she was in his care along with two other children. The relative is wanted for questioning by the police.
According to her mother, the girl is still complaining about pain in her abdomen.
Her mother stated that the girl was initially scared to tell her the truth about what had happened. “I don’t know if she was frighten that I would beat she,” the woman told Stabroek News yesterday.
“Before I left I told her to go over by my brother and she tell me in the hospital that when she was about to go over, the man [another relative] hold her down and carry her into a room.
She tell me she fight he and scream but he cover her mouth,” she said.
The child was rushed to the Arakaka Hospital but was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital after she continued to bleed profusely.
The child’s mother said she had left her daughter to go to a shop that was five miles away from their home. She said while she was on the bus she received a call from her daughter, who told her, “mommy come see wah on happen to me. Me gon dead.”
She said the child told her the man instructed her to say that she fell off a generator while turning it off.
