Jason-Ray Khalil, Raphael DeGroot and Nicholas Narain numbered among the victors in the Open Category when the Guyana Squash Association (GSA) Bounty Farm Handicap Squash tourney continued on Wednesday.
Sporting a (-24) handicap at the Georgetown Club squash courts on Camp Street, Khalil took a 1-0 lead in his fixture with Ingram Edwards (+4), clinching the first set by a 15-10 margin. Khalil sealed the fixture in the second set winning 15-11. DeGroot (-13) in his match-up with Tristan Gomes (+11) took the early advantage and won the first set by a 15-11 score line. He completed the result in the second set, winning by a 16-14 margin.
On the other hand, Narain (-15) took the early advantage and won the first stanza 15-9 in his showdown with Joe Mekdeci (0). He then secured the match-up in the second set, with a 15-10 victory.
Similarly claiming wins in the division were Javid Rahaman (+3) who defeated Tiffany Solomon (+8) 15-12, 15-10 while Ryan Rahaman (+5) beat Anthony Islam (+9) 15-12, 15-10 and John Maikoo (+7) downed Jamaal Douglas (+8) 15-3, 15-7. Daniel Islam (+7) would also be in the winner’s row of the Open Category, dismissing Rebecca Low (+9) by a 15-11, 15-8 margin while Jan Verwey (+9) defeated Dustanni Barrow (+8) 15-11, 15-6 and Satesh Singh (+6) routed Dwayne Yan (+9) 15-10, 15-7. Barrow (+8) then overcame Makeda Harding (+10) 10-15, 15-7, 15-13 while Matthew Phang (+7) overpowered Anil Singh (+10) 15-11, 15-4.
Registering victories via the walkover route in the same division were Ashley Khalil, Nyron Joseph, Ashley DeGroot, Wayne Alphonso and Regan Pollard over Shane Seebarran, Sarah Lewis, David Dyal, Nathan Persaud and Kyle Waldron correspondingly.
In the Category-A division, Mohryan Baksh (+10) defeated Geovanna Dos Santos (+12) 15-7, 15-9 while Kamir Khan (+7) defeated Aliyah Persaud (+6) 15-10, 15-2 and Chad De Abreu (+11) defeated Beau Fernandes (+11) 15-2, 15-3.
Action continues today from 6pm at the same venue with matches in both divisions while on Saturday, the matches are slated to start from 12pm. The finals are set for Sunday at the same location from 11am.
