An East Coast of Demerara resident who was bound for New York was yesterday morning busted by the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri with 2.2 kilogrammes of cocaine in her hand luggage during check in.
A search by the CANU officers of the 26-year-old woman’s carry-on luggage, unearthed the illegal substance. She was then told her rights and taken into custody.
Head of CANU, James Singh, confirmed the bust to Stabroek News and said that no charge has been yet laid but that investigations were continuing.
This newspaper understands that the woman hails from Mon Repos on the East Coast of Demerara.
