A two-day workshop, hosted by the Ministry of Human Services’ Men’s Affairs Bureau, in collaboration with the Salvation Army’s Men’s Social Sector, the Guyana Police Force and the Ministry of Health’s Gender Based Unit has ended with men more trained to deal with gender-based violence, GINA said. The workshop focused on the role of males in addressing the issue of gender-based violence and targeted religious organisations and their contributions.Head of the Men’s Affairs Bureau Diego Alphonso, who chaired the opening session, said that men have not been given enough priority and recognition, however, they play a major role in society, and they too are abused. He said, according to GINA, “we believe that men are hurting too, and they too have a story to tell…men also have a need to be loved, cared for, respected, listened to and affirmed.”
