Former Guyana U19 all-rounder Khemraj Mahadeo’s all-round performance led Rose Hall Town Bakewell to victory over Jai Hinds in the Raffik and Sons 20-overs-a-side tournament for teams in the Lower/Central Corentyne area recently.
Playing at the Albion Front Ground, the 30-year-old took 2 for 17 off his four overs before slamming an aggressive 58 to lead RHT Bakewell to an eight wicket victory.
Batting first after losing the toss, Jai Hinds reached a respectable 146 for 9 off their allotted 20 overs with D. Naidu top scoring with 50. His innings included four sixes and a four while L. Veersammy chipped in with 44, striking three sixes and two fours.
The pair added 90 runs for the third wicket but when Mahadeo bowled Veerasammy in the 15th over, Jai Hinds collapsed from a healthy 110 for 2 to 146 for 9. Bowling for RHT Bakewell, Sherain Murray took 3 for 27, off-spinner Azam Khan 2 for 30 and West Indies female pacer Erva Giddings 2 for 22.
Needing 147 from 20 overs to secure victory, Rose Hall Town Bakewell was given a flying start of 98 by Mahadeo and former Berbice U19 player Vishal Crandon (43) who piled on the runs in just 10 overs.
Mahadeo fell at 115 for 2 while former national player Delbert Hicks (20) and national U17 player Brandon Prashad (18) then added 35 runs in an unbroken third wicket partnership to take the visitors to 150 for 2 in 17.3 overs.
