A man who pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit forgery was yesterday sentenced to 12 months imprisonment when he appeared in a city court.
Dwayne Adams, 35, appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 1.
Between December 2014 and March 2, 2015, Adams conspired together with others to forge a Moleson Creek immigration entry stamp on page 5 of a Barbadian passport.
When asked by the court if he had anything to say regarding the charge, Adams replied, “Madam, I have been trying to go to England and a friend of mine said he will get the passport for me if I give him US$300. I did so and when I was arrested the police told me that it’s not valid and I lef stranded. I begging for lenience and it won’t happen again.”
The facts of the matter were not presented in court.
Apart from spending the next 12 months in prison, the unrepresented defendant was also ordered to pay a fine of $100,000.
