East Coast are the new champions of the Demerara Inter Association Under-17 cricket competition following two victories and an abandoned final round game which was completely washed out yesterday at the Enterprise Community Development Centre ground.
East Coast entered the final round in the lead and though the encounter against previous champions West Demerara was washed out, they managed to gain the title after wins in the first round by 76 runs over East Bank and by four wickets over Georgetown.
Both East Bank and Georgetown entered the final round with a shot at winning the title. However, rain had the last say. East Bank’s only victory came against West Demerara by 20 runs in the second round while Georgetown defeated West Demerara by nine wickets in the first round.
The tournament was used to select the Demerara team for the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Inter-County tournament which is set to commence next week.
