The roads of the Ancient County will be transformed into a cycling battleground when the second of three legs of the Cheddi Jagan Memorial road race pedals off tomorrow.
According to the event’s organizer Hassan Mohamed, the BK International sponsored fixture is scheduled for a 09:00hrs start at New Amsterdam.
The 55-mile race which proceeds to NO. 55 Village and returns to Port Mourant for the finish, will feature national wheelsmen like defending champion, Alanzo Greaves, Hamza Eastman (winner of the first leg), Michael Anthony and Paul DeNobrega.
Last year’s road race champion, Geron Williams along with last season’s most successful rider, Orville Hinds and other prominent bikers like Robin Persaud, Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams, Raul Leal, Junior Niles and others will also be on their saddles.
Alonzo Ambrose is the defending champion of the junior category and will be looking for a repeat.
Thuran Harris (veterans), Clyde Jacobs (mountain bike) Anthony Farrier (over-60) and Naomi Singh (female) were also categorical winners last year.
Transportation for the cyclists and officials will leave the Ministry of Sport at 05:00hrs.
Notes: BK International is sponsoring the event for the 18th successive year. The first leg of the memorial race was staged at West Demerara last Sunday while the final leg will be held on March 22 in Essequibo.
