Upsets highlighted the second night of the Sparta Boss First Anniversary Knockout Football tourney as heavyweights Broad Street, Albouystown-A, North Ruimveldt and Albouystown-B were eliminated on Friday at the Sparta Boss Tarmac in East La Penitence.
Broad Street went down to Charlotte Street by a 1-0 margin in the sixth affair compliments of a Akeem Calendar strike.
Albouystown-A lost to newcomers Guyhoc Skulls 2-1 on penalty kicks after normal time finished 0-0.
Similarly making their exit via the penalty shoot-out route was North Ruimveldt who lost to 300 2-1 on sudden death kicks.
In the seventh showdown, Sophia-B defeated Albouystown-B by a 2-1 score line.
Andrew Smartt opened the scoring for Sophia in the very first minute, thumping his first time effort from his own half in the centre of the field down the middle of the goal, after the opposing final defender initially cleared an attempted shot into his path. Smartt would then make it 2-0 four minutes onward compliments of a right sided effort into the lower left hand corner. Albouystown-B would eventually net a consolation goal in the 14th minute through a Sophia own goal. The penalty shoot-out route would see another high profile unit making an early exit as Dream Chasers edged Stevedore Housing Scheme 3-2 after normal ended 0-0 in the evening’s opening fixture.
Surviving the fate of the other traditional giants were Tiger Bay, West Front Road-Gold is Money and Festival City Warriors who defeated Ghetto Youths, Island All-Stars and Globe Yard respectively.
Tiger Bay dismantled Ghetto Youths 6-0 in the second matchup. Deon Alfred scored the event’s first hat-trick in the seventh, eighth and 15th minutes while Stephon Moore contributed a double in the fifth and 10th minutes and Daren Harris scored in the 12th minute.
West Front Road edged Island All-Stars through a Jamal Pedro ninth minute strike.
In the fifth fixture, Festival City Warriors overcame Globe Yard 3-2 on penalty kicks after regulation time ended 1-1.
Dwayne Lawrence gave Festival City the early lead in the fifth minute, however, Globe Yard would the level the score in the 12th minute through a first time Leon Roberts effort.
The action continues today at the same venue with the round of 16 fixtures.
