National under-17 batsman Adrian Sukwah and Asif Ally Saturday propelled Lower Corentyne to a comprehensive nine-wicket victory over New Amsterdam/Canje Combined in the final of the Republic Bank Guyana Limited Inter Zone 2014 Under-17 at the Albion Sports Complex.
Sukwah stroked an unbeaten 67 to take his team to 113-1 replying to 112 made by New Amsterdam/Canje whose innings was undermined by Ally’s 4-20.
The New Amsterdam/ Canje side won the toss and opted to bat but struggled from the start of their innings after losing national u15 all-rounder Kevin Sinclair for eight.
Skipper Jaleel Jaffar top scored with 22 while Kyle Michael made 19 and Sasenarine Sookoo 18. Skipper Brandon Persaud supported Ally’s off spin by capturing 3-16. In reply, Albion junior opening pair Adrian Sukwah and Ritesh Omrao made light work of the total with very attractive and sensible batting. They reached 113 for 1 with Sukwah reaming unbeaten on 67. Umrao was run out for 32.
At the presentation ceremony after the match, Sukwah was named Man-of-the -Match.
Berbice Cricket Board President Anil Beharry thanked the management of Albion Estate, the groundsmen, the players who participated, the junior selection panel and most of all the sponsors, Republic Bank Guyana Limited. He said that the board looked forward for their continued support. Meanwhile the junior selection panel announced a strong 14 man squad to participate in the Inter County Tournament to commence on Wednesday.
