A miner was yesterday remanded to prison after he appeared in a city court accused of three armed robberies, all committed on the same day.
Kellon Peters, 25, of One Mile, Wismar, Linden, pleaded not guilty when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 1 before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
It is alleged that on February 28, at Wismar, Linden, Peters, armed with a gun, robbed Petal Yaw of a $116,000 cell phone. It is also alleged on the same day, being armed with a gun, he robbed Yaw of $24,500, which was the property of Steve Waddell. It is further alleged that Peters robbed Samantha Griffith of a quantity of Digicel and GT&T phone cards, amounting to $150,000, and which also belonged to Waddell.
According to police, Yaw, who has known Peters for the past five years, positively identified him at an ID parade as the man who robbed her at gun-point at her work place.
Prosecutor Michael Grant objected to bail. Grant told the court that the police currently have matters of similar nature where Peters was involved and more charges are likely to be laid against him.
“When the taxi pick me up on the Friday, I did going and drop me daughter home and these men just come up to me and say come here, then they arrest me. They arrest me and me family ain’t know nothing,” Peters, however, told the court.
Peters was remanded and the case was transferred to the Linden Magistrates’ Court for March 17.
