Winston Hinds was yesterday remanded to prison on four counts of armed robbery after the victims allegedly identified him when he was held as a suspect in a murder.
Hinds, of Lot 58 Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Linden, pleaded not guilty to the charges when Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry read them to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 1.
It is alleged that on November 10, 2013, at Wismar, Linden, being together with others and armed with a gun, he robbed Clayton Thompson of a quantity of cash and jewellery, valued $800,000.
It is also alleged that on February 9, 2014, being together with others and armed with a gun, he robbed Marlene Daniels of a quantity of items amounting to $38,500.
Further, it is alleged that on February 17, 2014, the accused being together with others robbed Indra Campbell of a cell phone and a quantity of cash, totaling $40,000. And lastly, it is alleged that Hinds, being together with others and armed with a gun, robbed Colbert Campbell of a cell phone valued $200,000.
The unrepresented Hinds was seen crying before the charges was read to him.
Police Prosecutor Michael Grant objected to bail and he told the court Hinds was arrested for murder and it was while the investigations were ongoing that the victims came forward and positively identified him as the perpetrator of the robberies.
The matters were transferred to the Linden Magistrates’ Court for March 17.
