An injunction was filed last Friday in the Berbice High Court against 16 officials of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) including President Anil Beharry preventing them from holding themselves out to be officials of the BCB.
The injunction was filed by David Black, personally and in his capacity as president of the West Berbice Cricket Association and by Godwyn Allicock, personally and in his capacity as secretary of the Port Mourant Cricket Club.
The matter will be heard by Justice Nareshwar Harnanan this Friday.
President of the BCB Anil Beharry in an invited comment last evening told Stabroek Sport that the board received the summons around 4pm yesterday and he immediately contacted the rest of the executives. They then contacted the board’s lawyer who advised them to comply with the injunction in an effort not to be in contempt of court.
Beharry said as a result the BCB sent out a press release advising the media not to carry any articles concerning the BCB. The BCB also took the decision not to participate in the Guyana Cricket Board’s Inter County U17 competition.
However according to a GCB official late last night the Berbice team will be playing in the tournament.
“The Berbice team will be playing. The team is at the Hostel. The manager, is one of the person injuncted and he has left,” said the GCB official.
Contacted former West Indies Under19 skipper Andre Percival told Stabroek Sport that the decision to play was solely that of the players.
“The young fellas decided they will stay and play but not as a Berbice Cricket Board team because that team has been dissolved because of the injunction.”
Percival said the decision by the players was based on the fact that they would have an opportunity to make the Guyana team for the regional competition.
“They decided that they needed to play in order to make the national team,” said Percival who also disclosed that the competition which was scheduled to commence today will now start tomorrow as the GCB decided to push back the start date by one day because of the latest development.
When the competition bowls off at 9.30am tomorrow, Demerara, the defending champions will play Essequibo at the Police Sports Club ground while the Guyana U-15 team will oppose the team from Berbice.
That match will be played at the Everest Cricket Club ground.

The Coach is Forbes Daniels and Nazeer Mohamed is the manager.
Demerara:- Joshua Persaud, Bhaskar Yadram, Raymond Perez, Ramnarine Chatura (V.Captain), Gavin Boodwah, Krishram Seyhoden, Judell McAllister, Kelvin Seepersaud, Sagar Hathiramani , Ronaldo Alimohamed (captain)

According to information reaching Stabroek Sports, two clubs, Young Warriors and Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, both of whom participated and voted at the last Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the BCB were according to the Cricket Administration Bill (CAB) not eligible to vote.
