The Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) will be establishing an office at Charity, Pomeroon to serve boat owners and operators there and from Moruca.
A team from MARAD met with 21 boat operators and other stakeholders, including Assistant Regional Executive Officer of Region One, Gerald Rodrigues on Tuesday March 3, a press release from the Transport and Harbours Department said. The objective of the meeting was to discuss issues related to licensing and registering of vessels, the certification of captains and safety. Boat operators also raised a number of issues, particularly about the timeliness of the Department’s services.
In response, Rodrigues urged the boat operators to get registered and have their vessels certified once the office is up and running.
During the visit, 48 life jackets for adults and children were handed over to the District Education Officer of Region One Ignatius Adams who pledged to distribute them to schools in the riverine areas.
