A man who allegedly broke into his grandmother’s home and stole a television set was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Magistrate Annette Singh.
Seon De Freitas, 23, a mechanic who resides at 27 Seaforth Street, Campbellville, pleaded not guilty yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 11.
It is alleged that on January 25, 2015, Seon De Freitas broke into Janet De Freitas’s, place of dwelling and stole one 32” flat screen television valued $340,000.
Prosecutor Adduni Inniss advised that bail be denied as De Freitas would usually go to his grandmother’s home and verbally abuse her.
In his defence, De Freitas said the television was taken out from Courts by his grandmother for him and he would pay the monthly installments.
He further stated that he lived with his grandmother but decided to move out. He said he did not break into her home and steal the television but was invited in by her and walked out with his television.
But Janet De Freitas said all of his statements were false and that he had destroyed the furniture in her house.
After listening to both sides Magistrate Singh decided to deny De Freitas bail.
He will return to court on March 25.
