The trial of Michael Powley, who is accused of murder, continued yesterday with the cross-examination of a civilian witness by defence attorney Basil Williams.
Powley is on trial before Justice James Bovell-Drakes and a 12-member jury at the High Court for the murder of Vishwanauth Narine called, “Buddy.”
The allegation against Powley is that on June 8, 2012, at Plastic City, West Coast Demerara, he murdered Narine, 26.
The man has denied the charge.
The case is being prosecuted by attorneys Narissa Leander and Natasha Backer.
The state’s case is that on the day in question, the two were engaged in an argument, when a fight broke out, during which Powley began running Narine who fell. At this point, Powley allegedly began stabbing Narine to the chest.
Narine, formerly of Plastic City, Vreed-en-Hoop, was subsequently pronounced dead on arrival at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
Three other witnesses are to be called to the stand of the seven being presented by the state.
The trial continues on Monday.
