A youth was remanded to prison yesterday after a court heard that he was caught on surveillance camera footage after he broke and entered an East Coast home.
At the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, Magistrate Zamilla Ally heard that Kenard Madramootoo, 19, was apprehended as a result of the footage. Madramootoo was charged with breaking and entering the home of Sherwin Semple and stealing electronics. He was not required to plead to the charge when Magistrate Zamilla Ally read it to him.
Prosecutor John Singh told the court that Semple, who resides at 42 Second Street, Liliendaal, locked his home and retired to bed at 3:30 AM last Friday. He said when Semple woke, he discovered that his computer, flash drive and Playstation 3 game console were missing. As a result, Singh said Semple then checked his surveillance footage and saw the accused on camera.
An investigation was carried out and Madramootoo was apprehended and charged.
Singh objected to bail based on the prevalence and gravity of the offence and the court remanded Madramootoo until April 20.
