Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) survived losing two quick wickets at the start of their innings to record a lopsided victory over St. Stanislaus on Saturday at the Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) ground.
Recovering from a shaky start of 30-2, DCC posted 351-7 in 40 overs then returned to rout St. Stanislaus for 86 in just 16 overs in the GCA/New Building Society 40 overs second-division tournament.
Tevin Imlach’s unbeaten 124 highlighted the day but it was Sherfane Rutherford’s aggressive 58 (3×6, 7×4) that orchestrated DCC’s recovery. Clitus Johnson (62) also got to fifty, adding a 150-run stand with Imlach for the fourth wicket. Imlach’s innings included 20 fours.
Bacchus and L. Wilson snatched three wickets each for St. Stanislaus.
In reply. only S. Bacchus made it to 20.
DCC’s experienced leg spinner Antonel Atwell grabbed 7-25 from eight overs in his very destructive spell.
At the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) ground, the host GNIC was beaten by five wickets at the hand of Third Class. GNIC’s most experienced player and former West Indies off spinner, Clyde Butt made 73 but Third Class’s Alvin Castello made 52 and grabbed 3-30.
GNIC scored 139 in 35.1 overs, with Butts the principal scorer as Keon Bailey and Castello captured 4-26 and 3-30 respectively.
Third Class scored 140-5 in 24.5 to complete a successful run chase. Castello was supported by Shivanand Roopnarine, who made 18 not out. Marcel Mentore snatched three wickets for GNIC.
