The price of fuel has remained steady over the last three weeks, a visit to major gas stations in the city yesterday has revealed.
The service stations visited were Rubis on Vlissengen Road, GuyOil and Sol, both on Regent Street.
The highest prices for fuel were at Rubis where gasoline was listed at $877 per gallon and diesel, $813 per gallon. Sol had gasoline at $840, while diesel and kerosene were $800 and $700 per gallon respectively. The lowest price was at GuyOil where gasoline was being sold at $805 per gallon, diesel at $774 per gallon and kerosene at $560 per gallon.
In January this year, Minister of Finance Dr Ashni Singh had announced a 30% reduction in the prices for gasoline, diesel and kerosene at the state-owned GuyOil stations. This came months after steep decreases in oil on the international market and the corresponding decrease in fuel prices around the world, while the government utilized a fluctuating excise tax rate to ensure that fuel prices remained stable locally. The decreases at GuyOil in January resulted in gasoline being sold at $695 per gallon; diesel: $694 per gallon and kerosene $496 per gallon compared to $995, $985 and $850 respectively.
Privately owned gas stations followed suit some five days later.
However, as the price for crude oil climbed to over US$50 last month, prices at the local pumps crept back up to the prices seen yesterday.
