Magistrate Charlyn Artiga yesterday remanded the 26-year-old owner of a Corentyne trucking service when he appeared in the No. 51 Village Magistrate’s Court charged with murder.
According to the facts of the case, on Monday, March 16th, at Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice, Romel ‘Junior’ Sanichar of Letter Kenny Village, murdered Karamchan ‘Gango’ Jageshar, a 41-year-old father of four. The unrepresented man who is also cattle farmer, was not required to plead to the indictable charge. He was remanded to prison until April 13th when he was ordered to appear in the Whim Magistrate’s court.
Stabroek News understands that the two men were involved in a heated argument at Satesh’s Liquor Store in relation to a horse racing meet on Sunday, during the wee hours of Monday morning. During the quarrel, Jageshar, a vendor, sustained an incised slash to his stomach and was taken to the Port Mourant public hospital where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy performed yesterday morning at the Port Mourant hospital by pathologist Dr Vivekanand Bridgemohan found that the man died as a result of shock and haemorrhage due to multiple incised wounds. A police source said Jageshar sustained wounds to his heart, liver, lungs and other internal organs.
Zainool Mohamed, 34, said that before his brother visited the Port Mourant bar, he had met friends and then visited his mother and brother sometime after 11pm. Mohamed said Jageshar left with friends to go to a house in Portuguese Quarters, a stone’s throw away from the bar. It was the last time he was seen alive by relatives.
After he was injured at the bar, his relatives were informed and they went to the scene to transport him to hospital but were prevented from doing so as he was unresponsive and the body was in the care of lawmen.
Jageshar leaves to mourn his four children: Jenny, 18; Anita, 16; Amrita, 11 and nine-year-old David. He is expected to be laid to rest shortly.
