The murder of Mr Courtney Crum-Ewing has cast a shadow of tension. It is commendable to see APNU+AFC calling for peace and trying to avoid any action which could destroy their chance at the polls.
President Ramotar has asked the Guyana Police Force to find the murderers of Mr Courtney Crum-Ewing. As usual, when high profile murders take place in Guyana the government gives the impression that no stone will be left unturned to catch the killers. As time passes a few suspects are held for 72 hours by the Guyana Police Force and then released on the grounds that there is not enough evidence to charge them, while the real culprits are free. I believe that phantom gangs are resurfacing in our society.
On the murder of my brother Ronald Waddell the assurance was given by two Ministers of Home Affairs – Ms Gail Teixeira and Clement Rohee that his killers would be brought to justice, but nine years have passed and no one is facing trial for his murder.
I close by asking the following questions:-
Is the intelligence unit working with the CID to solve crime or only seeking information on organizations and people who are perceived to be enemies of the state?
Why did the Brickdam police not interview the government official who Crum-Ewing reported had threatened his life?
I hope that Courtney Crum-Ewing’s killers are found.
My condolences go out to Courtney Crum-Ewing’s family, relatives and friends, and I hope that there will be an inquiry into his murder to satisfy every Guyanese.
