Shanomae Blackmore, the Administrative Secretary of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) for the past 12 years, passed away yesterday morning at her residence. She was 34.
Blackmore’s father, Claude Blackmore, a former Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) president confirmed her death which came after a brief illness.
Shanomae was also the Administrative Secretary of the AAG for the past 14 years.
After the news of her passing broke, the GOA released the following statement:
It is with regret we wish to inform you of the death of Ms. Shanomae Blackmore our Administrative Secretary who passed away this morning at her home after a brief illness.
President of the GOA, K Juman Yassin stated yesterday that he was saddened by her passing, adding that Blackmore’s demise is “an extremely great loss to us and other associations.”
A minute of silence was also observed yesterday during a press briefing at the GOA’s headquarters in Kingston.
Blackmore will surely be missed by the sporting fraternity.
