Caribbean Football Union (CFU) rival St. Lucia has selected their provisional squad for Sunday’s international friendly against Guyana on at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence.
The squad, which will also serve as part of their selection pool for the upcoming International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) 2018 World Cup qualifiers, comprise 38 local and overseas-based players.
Pernal Williams of Martinique’s L’Aiglon du Lamentin FC, leads the overseas contingent which also comprises Zacchaeus Polius from Antigua and Barbuda’s Old Road FC, Eden Charles, Tremain Paul, Malik St. Prix and Kurt Frederick of Trinidad and Tobago’s W-Connection and Lester Joseph and Jamil Joseph from Caledonia AIA.
The complete training squad which be led by head coach Francis Lastic reads goalkeepers Randy Poleon and Alton Robert, defenders Emmery Edward, Sabbatus Hunte, Pernal Williams, John Joseph, Gervan Janvier, Erick Gabriel, Shawn Evans, Jamil Joseph and Kurt Frederick, Midfielders Rickson Augustin, Romiel Felix, Everton Lambert, Sheldon Emmanuel, Jason Similien, Nyhime Gilbert, Vernan Abbott, Johnathan Symphorien, Valdez Maximin, Travis Thomas, Danil Denis, Rommel Hippolyte, Kingsley Henry, Dwayne John Baptiste, Shimron Demille, Akid Modeste, Sadic Bertin, Levi Altidore and Malik St. Prix and forwards Melvin Aurélien, Troy Greenidge, Gerlanne Neptune, Eden Charles, Tremain Paul, Zaccheus Polius, Lester Joseph and Cliff Valcin.
St. Lucia is expected to arrive on local shores tomorrow. The previous international meeting between the two sides resulted in a 2-0 victory for the visitors during the 2014 Caribbean Cup tourney. Meanwhile the Golden Jaguars have also selected their pool of players for impending clash.
Meanwhile Guyana’s Golden Jaguars have widened their pool of players with the addition of overseas-based Michael Ten-Pow of the United Sates of America and Daniel White of Canada.
According to a press release, the 29-year-old Ten-Pow, is Guyana-born but migrated to the USA while quite young.
He is a qualified Computer Engineer, whose father is Rudolph Ten-Pow and mother Bonita Ten-Pow.
“I’ve been an engineer for the last decade and have decided now to get back active in the game so I made contact with the GFF and told them that I need the opportunity to get involved. I still have skills; still have a good body on me and a desire to represent my country, so it’s an opportunity I’m happy and lucky to have.”
Ten-Pow disclosed that he plays in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) in San Francisco with the San Francisco Stompers Football Club as a left winger.
“I am aiming and expect to become a permanent fixture with the Golden Jaguars with good performances. I would like to see Guyana get back to prominence. I know we had a good run a few years back and I would like to see us do that again. I know some people has written us off given the kind of turmoil that has happened but I would like to see that change.”
White is 22 years-old and his father, James White, hails from Campbellville.
According to White it was always his dream to play for the birth country of his father.
“The Golden Jaguars are really welcoming, it’s like a family right now, and they are kind to me and respectful and they treat me as one of them.”
“I’m in my third year at university studying to become a physiotherapist or to get into sports medicine,” he said.
