Banks DIH Limited continued their support for the footballing discipline by becoming the major sponsor under the Banks Beer and Coca-Cola brands for the Golden Jaguars’ impending international fixtures against St. Lucia and Grenada.
At a media briefing yesterday held at their Thirst Park locale, the Beverage giants announced the move in the presence of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Normalization Committee and members of the Golden Jaguars’ management and team roster. Chairman of the GFF Normalization Committee Clinton Urling thanked the institution for sponsoring the event while noting it is a great opportunity for the viewing public to witness the Golden Jaguars compete on local shores after a long hiatus. Guyana is slated to face off with St. Lucia on Sunday March 22nd at the National Stadium in Providence. They will also oppose Grenada on March 29th at the same venue.
Urling further called on the populace to come out and support the team in the two fixtures as they prepare for the impending 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualification campaign. Brian Choo-Hen, Banks Beer Brand Manager during a brief address said he is very pleased to be a part of supporting the national setup, noting that he expects the Golden Jaguars to be victorious in both of their impending challenges.
He further said that he envisions the players are “thirsty” to bring the title home and that the Banks Beer and Coca-Cola brands have always been committed to the development of the sport locally.
Head Coach of the National side, Jamaal Shabazz said the two matches are very important as they will serve as a test to judge how far the team has progressed and if the current work and methods instilled by setup are working.
Similar to the Normalization Committee, Shabazz said the work of the national programme is to bring normalcy to the support and to get individuals interested once more. “Our work is to get people back interested in the sport. All over the world, the sport brings people together, why should it be different in Guyana”.
He declared while St. Lucia is a formidable team with several overseas players, he is happy to be facing them as it will be the type of test needed to properly assess the players. Shabazz further thanked the company for their support, noting this type of commitment is what is required to develop football.
Captain of the Golden Jaguars Chris Nurse said the St. Lucia fixture is a rematch of the team’s previous meeting while urging the public to come and support the team by wearing yellow and bringing their flags as they to secure a positive result to ignite a new beginning.
Admission to the venue is $1,000 for general seating while $4000 will the cost for Very Important Person (VIP) seating. Children under the age of 12 will be admitted free.
