A fully-equipped ambulance was handed over to the Diamond Hospital by Local Government and Regional Development Minister Norman Whittaker yesterday.
According to the Government Information Agency (GINA), Whittaker urged the hospital’s management and drivers to care the ambulance because the rehabilitation costs would increase tremendously and further funds would have to be directed towards purchasing another ambulance.
The GINA report quoted Whittaker as stating that the investment was valuable and allowed for mobility and transfer of patients. He stated that his ministry would assist the hospital if they need it, while noting that it would be done within its means.
The keys to the new ambulance were presented to Dr Serena Bender of the Diamond Diagnostic Hospital.
Dr. Bender, GINA said, thanked Whittaker for the donation, while stating that it was much appreciated. GINA added that she assured him that the service at the hospital “should improve once the ambulance begins its work.”
The ambulance was budgeted in the 2014 National Budget. The hospital was functioning with one ambulance after the other one crashed while transporting a patient.
The statement added that Whittaker also donated a computer to Dr Bender to be used by the Records Department of the hospital.
