The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has commenced internal security training at the Inter-Services Institute of Internal Security Studies for several ranks from the Joint Services.
A statement released by the GDF stated that the training is geared toward the middle and lower ranks of the services and is meant to exercise the “junior command element” in managing different internal security situations.
They will have to review regulations, laws and procedures and familiarise themselves with their specific roles in internal security operations.
The statement indicated that a team of instructors has been provided by the GDF, the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Fire Service to train the ranks and at the end there will be a debriefing session where lessons learnt will be evaluated and participants will have to share experiences, observations and make recommendations.
“The training is timely in wake of Guyana’s preparation for the 2015 general and regional elections,” the statement said.
It added that at the end of the training ranks would fully understand their legal obligations to successfully accomplish tasks such as patrolling, conduct of road blocks, crowd dispersal and cordon and searches.
