Dear Editor,
Guyana’s President Donald Ramotar must be commended for the decision taken by him to invite overseas visitors to monitor our national and regional elections due on May 11. There was a time when foreign observers were seen as interference in our domestic affairs. Those were the days of rigged elections when voting in elections was of no real consequence. Today, every vote is counted and people are sovereign.
This is why it is so important for every voter to exercise their right to vote on elections day.
In the final analysis, it is the sum total of individual votes that will determine which political party will form the next government.
There was a time when voting was a complete waste of time. Not so today. Every vote counts.
Yours faithfully,
Hydar Ally
