A man died at the West Demerara Regional Hospital, less than a day after he was struck down by a car on the Harlem Public Road, West Coast Demerara.
Fareed Hamid succumbed to his injuries at about 5:30 yesterday morning.
Stabroek News was told that Hamid was standing on the road, talking to his mother from their house verandah when a sudden impact was heard. His mother started to scream, which alerted villagers who ran to the scene. According to an eyewitness, after the impact was heard, he saw Hamid, who was still breathing, on top of the car lying motionless and bleeding from his entire left side. He was immediately picked up by a resident who placed him in the back of his vehicle and took him to the hospital. He added that the man sustained injuries to his spine, head and foot.
Stabroek News was also informed that the driver of PRR 324 failed to render assistance but told those present at the scene that it wasn’t his fault since he wasn’t driving at a fast rate. But according to the eyewitness, the driver of the car was speeding when the accident occurred.
