Gavin Singh’s 156 helped the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) defeat Third Class in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/New Building Society second division 40 over competition at the GCC ground on Saturday.
The experienced left-handed batsman who was promoted to open the batting, led his team to a very competitive total of 270-6 in 40 overs.
He received support from fellow opener Martin Pestano-Belle and Manny Forde who made 27 and 23 runs respectively.
Keon Bailey was Third Class most effective bowler picking up 2-42 from eight overs. The visitors, in reply, were dismissed for 98 in 27.4 overs. Shivnarine Roopnarine (31) and Andre O’Neil (23) were the main contributors.
Off spinner Tariq Dharamlall (4-6), Devon Lord (3-17) and Singh (2-17), were the principal wicket takers. GCC will progress to the next round while Third Class has been eliminated.
At the Everest Cricket Club ground, the hosts defeated the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) by 50 runs, despite Kenrick McDonald’s 91. Everest batted first to register 224 all out in 40 overs, with Monjrehar Bhola 67 and Kevin Ramdeen 59 not out the leading scorers while Jason Garraway claimed 3-56 for GDF. Ovell Sam and Randy Lindore assisted with two wickets each.
In reply McDonald’s half century failed to take GDF to victory.
Riyad Sattaur (4-23) and left-arm orthodox spinner, Javed Rasheed (3-10) were the chief wicket takers. Garraway chipped in with 40 for the military unit.
