A Laing Avenue resident is nursing two gunshot wounds at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after he was shot in his yard just before 1 am yesterday.
Curtis Thom, 47, of 138 Laing Avenue had ventured into his yard to feed his dog when the incident occurred.
His wife Rhonda said that when her husband told her he was going to feed the dog, she had tried to dissuade him from venturing outside at that hour of the morning.
She did not succeed and so she stood and watched him for a while before returning to bed, where suddenly, “I hear pow, pow.”
She said she jumped out of bed, hoping that it was not her husband, but her fears were confirmed when he stumbled into the house calling out for help and for someone to call the police, before collapsing.
Thom was then rushed to the GPH where he remains an admitted patient being treated for the gunshot wounds.
Policed said in a press release that Thom had been shot to his chest and left shoulder.
Thom’s wife said her husband was a very straightforward person who was not afraid to reprimand others about their wrongdoings. Because of this he was disliked by some who called him ‘police cochore’ and because some of his friends happen to be police officers.
Commander of ‘A’ Division, Clifton Hicken told Stabroek News that an investigation into the shooting has since been launched, but no arrests had been made as yet.
