The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) recently embarked on a historic partnership with Creditinfo Guyana which the two agencies said will aid consumers to access loans from banks and microfinance institutions.
Through the initiative, information on the payment patterns of individuals from the utility will be made available to third parties in support of their credit applications, a release from the two agencies said.
“This information can be a very useful tool to help in determining the character and credibility of the potential borrower,” GWI said.
The information is included in the various credit reports that are now used by banks throughout the sector as an indicator of eligibility for funds.
“Creditinfo Guyana is pleased and proud to acknowledge GWI’s outstanding leadership, corporate responsibility and outstanding efforts on behalf of their customers as demonstrated by their unstinting support for the credit bureau programme,” the release said.
The release said that Creditinfo Guyana currently serves every commercial bank and lender under the Financial Institutions Act in the country. It is actively engaged in bringing together lenders and providers of credit from all sectors.
