Lewis Fletchman, who was allegedly found with ecstasy, walked out of a city court a free man yesterday after the charge against him was dismissed.
Fletchman, of 76 Garnett Street, Campbellville, was placed on $75,000 bail after he made his first appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 1 and pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that he had 1.9 grammes of ecstasy in his possession.
His attorney Paul-Fung-A-Fat had told the court that the ecstasy was found at a house Fletchman was renting and it could have belonged to anyone.
Delivering her ruling yesterday, Magistrate Judy Latchman noted that the drug is not listed as a prohibited substance in the Narcotics Act and as a result she dismissed the case on the basis that Fletchman had no idea he was in possession of an illegal drug.
