The young man who has alleged that he was gang raped on Old Year’s Night last year is ready to give a statement to the police about his ordeal, according to his mother.
“He said he guh talk to the police now and tell them wah happen,” the woman told Stabroek News on Monday.
She recalled that the police had visited her home late last month but her son was not ready to make a statement. He has since indicated that he will speak, the woman said, while noting that she subsequently visited the Leonora Police Station and relayed this to the officers there but they are yet to visit their home.
The mother also said her son is doing much better but she still does not allow him to leave home by himself. Since the alleged attack, she said her son has been crying out for intense back pain. He continues to visit the Georgetown Public Hospital for psychiatric treatment.
The mother had said her son, who had worked at a supermarket and with other persons prior to the alleged attack, had told her he was raped by a friend and other men on Old Year’s Night after he had left to attend a party with the friend. When he returned the following morning, he was acting strangely and his mother said he bled from his anus before telling her what had happened. However, after he was taken to the hospital, he stopped talking and eating and was later transferred to Berbice for electroconvulsive therapy.
The named friend was arrested but was later released after he denied the allegation.
