Following their 2-0 win over St Lucia Sunday at the Providence National Stadium national captain Chris Nurse is of the view with the addition of more quality players more positive results are to be expected in the immediate future.
On Tuesday two England-based footballers were officially brought on board as the Golden Jaguars prepare for Sunday’s clash against Grenada at the Providence National Stadium.
Neil Danns and Matthew Briggs, who were both born in England will make their debuts for Guyana against Grenada Sunday.
Briggs, 24, has represented England at the U16, U17, U19, U20 and U21 levels.
He was the youngest player to feature in the English Premier League playing for then Fulham FC in May 2007 against Middleborough.
Danns has played for several English sides including Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool, Birmingham City and Crystal Place.
“The competition for places is about to get even tougher because we still have Walter Moore to come, we have Briggs and Danza obviously here, we have Ricky Shakes to come back so there is still a lot of quality players to add to the squad so going forward it is going to be a very competitive environment to get places in the team,” opined Nurse.
Speaking on Sunday’s defeat of St Lucia Nurse said the win was special for the team and the fans especially.
“It was the first time that we got to play in front of our home fans since the World Cup Qualifiers in 2012 so it was important for the players to give the fans that win so that they can feel good and start to believe and be positive behind the team again.”
