Dear Editor,
Why are people misinterpreting Mr Bharrat Jagdeo’s statements and making a political mockery out of them? When Mr Jagdeo said that Mr Ramotar should ‘kick asses,’ he merely meant that Mr Ramotar should be more strict and severe with his opponents who were cutting budgets in the Parliament and blocking important legislation to be passed for the benefit of the country. It means Mr Ramotar should take a hardline approach when dealing with his opponents instead of being a ‘nice guy’ and getting nowhere.
When I was teaching management thirty years ago, I used to tell my students you have to ‘kick ass’ to get work done in Guyana. What I really meant was that you have to supervise your workers and keep an eye on them all day or you will never get production. Most businessmen will agree with me here.
About comparing Dr Jagan’s house with Mr Jagdeo’s house: Mr Jagdeo was merely trying to explain to the public that his house in 2015 as compared to Dr Jagan’s house at the end of the 1960s was not significantly different given that it was a different era. Dr Jagan’s house at the end of the 1960s was a luxury at that time, as I used to live near to him for a short period. Next door to Dr Jagan’s home was the late Milton Lowe’s residence, a huge three storey building with a swimming pool, and all the surrounding homes were luxurious homes at that time.
It is like comparing a Mini-Minor, a luxurious car at that time with a Toyota Premio car in 2015. Not much difference when you take the time period into consideration. The same goes for houses in the late 1960s when comparing to those in 2015.
I am appealing to the opposition politicians to stop misinterpreting words for their own selfish benefit and political mileage.
Yours faithfully,
Balwant Persaud
