National Under-19 player Balchand Baldeo was named captain of the Berbice U19 team ahead of the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Inter-county tournament which bowls off on April 8.
Off-spinner Baldeo was a member of the Guyana U19 team which won last year’s West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional U19 tournament.
Also named in the 13-man squad are Brandon Persaud, Grisean Grant, Daniel Lewis and Clifton Lindie among others.
The selection of the squad comes after three days of intense training sessions under the watchful eyes of coaches Hubern Evans, Julian Moore, Kwesi Maltay and team coach Adrian Amsterdam.
The team was selected by the junior panel of the BCB.
Baldeo’s appointment as skipper was reinforced by the absence of West Indies U19 and Guyana senior opener Shimron Hetmyer who has been called up for Youth World Cup duties.
The players were urged by members of the board to exhibit commitment and discipline at all times.
Team management and players were outfitted with jerseys printed with the board’s logo while junior county players who would normally be outfitted with coloured jerseys to travel were provided with white playing shirts which the players will also use to travel to Georgetown, compliments of former national wicket-keeper and owner of Tiger Sports, Sheik Mohamed.
The players are: Balchand Baldeo (Captain) Leon Andrews, Ritesh Omrao (wicket keeper)Samuel Kistasammy, Brandon Persaud, Kassim Khan ,Daniel Lewis, Joel Seetaram, Ameer Khan, Omar Weatherspoon, Grisean Grant, Parmanand Ramdhan, Clifton Lindie and Zachary Persaud
