Three youth development teams from the United States of America are due to arrive today for a series of cricket matches against clubs, counties and area teams in Guyana.
The matches are a collaborative effort between the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) and the United States of America Global Cricket Academy (USAGCA).
Matches will take place from tomorrow until April 6.
According to a press release, the USAGCA, was the winner of the 2003 International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Global Award for Best Junior Development Initiative.
Following a successful U17 and U19 tour of India in 2014-15, the USAGCA is resuming its international cricket youth tour programme and will be engaging youth teams from various clubs, counties and area teams of the same age group here. The clubs providing teams are Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), Everest Cricket Club, Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), and Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO).
Berbice and Demerara along with the Area Associations in Demerara (West Demerara, Georgetown, East Coast and East Bank) will provide teams for the U15 and U18 age category while Guyana U15s and U17s will compete as well. Rubis Gas Station in Bel Air will also provide an U13 team.
According to the release, the USAGCA’s aim is to provide their players with a great chance and the best opportunities to play on the best pitches, so as to get international cricket experience.
The USAGCA believes the tour will help their elite players to gain more confidence with vital experience.
Many of their players have played National, ICC Americas and International cricket, and this tour will provide the right platform for all players to become professionals and to stay on top for all future cricket events in USA, added the release.
The GCB has reaped enormous success in 2014 and the beginning of 2015. This achievement has a great lot to do with the GCB’s thorough cricket development programme and the GCB is always open to ventures that will expose our players to new skills and opportunities that will aid in their long term growth, the release ended.
