A week after the discovery of the nude body of schoolgirl Alicia Ali on the seawall near Turkeyen, no arrest has yet been made.
Superintendent of Police Hugh Jessemy told Stabroek News yesterday that the situation remains the same as regards the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death. However, he said investigators are continuing to question persons in hopes of making inroads in understanding how she met her end.
Police are in possession of a suicide note allegedly written by the teen and addressed to her mother and Jessemy had indicated to Stabroek News that suicide was not ruled out from the investigation although they were looking in the direction of a murder.
The teenager went missing on Tuesday last after she was sent on errand to a nearby shop about 7 pm but did not return home. Her mother then raised an alarm and was joined by friends who went in search of her.
Ali’s body was discovered by a passerby on the seawall on Wednesday. She has since been laid to rest.
