Dubbed the World’s Best Rum, El Dorado, announced its association with the third edition of the “Biggest party in sport” the Limacol Caribbean Premier League (LCPL) T20 tournament yesterday.
At a simple, yet interactive media briefing held at the Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel’s Oasis lounge, LCP Commercial Director Jaime Stewart, Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) Marketing Director Sharda Vereen-Chand and Operations Manager Alex Graham, went through a few new additions in this season’s festivities.
Vereen-Chand pointed out that the continued support by DDL, stemmed from the response by consumers and cricket patriots regionally who have made the rum a part of their daily lives even after the event is over. “Cricketing fans can once again celebrate the World’s best rum as they enjoy the Biggest Party in sport,” she said.
She also hinted that El Dorado will be giving back to fans during the tournament with a `Scratch to Win’ promotion where persons who purchase the rum can scratch the labels and win prizes including tickets to matches while the grand prize of tickets to the final will further help stakeholders to engage in the product and the sport.
“El Dorado has been a huge supporter of the LCPL from even before the first ball was ever bowled,” said Stewart. He explained that the likes of ex-Australia cricketers Damien Fleming and Tom Moody are huge fans of the 21 year-old select version of the El Dorado rum and, as a result, the product has become an important figure in the holistic significance of the competition.
This season will also see an additional four matches instead of the usual three per each territory while Guyanese will be given an extra bit of anticipation and hype leading up towards the latter stages of the tournament as the local franchise Guyana Amazon Warriors will play their four home matches immediately before the semi-final and final rounds.
Stewart also hinted that majority of the games will be late afternoon/evening matches due to the consideration of fans who are obligated to work but will still want to indulge in some top-class entertainment by some of the Caribbean’s and the world’s top cricketers.
Guyana Amazon Warriors all-rounder Chris Barnwell said that he was looking forward to the competition and also hoped that his team did well this season while thanking DDL for their continued support.
The Amazon Warriors will play their four home matches at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence on July 15, 17, 18 and 21 against the Jamaica Tallawahs, St Lucia Zouks, Barbados Tridents and the Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel.
