A teenager was on Tuesday freed of a robbery charge after the victim of the crime refused to give evidence against him.
It was alleged that on Mashramani Day, Nicholas Sookram, 17, of Lot 280 Independence Boulevard, Georgetown, being in the company of others, robbed Brandon Singh of a gold chain and a Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone, amounting to $155,000 in total value.
Sookram was subsequently arrested by Singh.
He had pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 3, where he was scheduled to be tried. However, it was bought to the court’s attention yesterday that Singh refused to proceed with the matter and the accused was subsequently freed of the charge.
