Two persons are now hospitalised in critical condition and under police guard after an unlicensed pistol and ammunition were found in the vehicle they were travelling in after an accident early yesterday.
The accident occurred at Strathspey, East Coast Demerara at around 4.45 am. The police said two men and a women, who were occupants of the vehicle, received injuries and were admitted to a hospital.
Stabroek News was told that the three were being chased by the police at the time the accident occurred.
A press statement from the police said an unlicensed .32 Taurus pistol along with 11 rounds of matching ammunition was seized from the vehicle. A source close to the investigation yesterday confirmed that one of the men was arrested while the other occupants were under police guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The source stated that Stephon Shepard, the man who was arrested, and his girlfriend Sonia Mohamed, were in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Mohamed and the other occupant, Corwin Benjamin, are in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.
