Demerara Under-15 defeated the visiting United States of America Cricket Academy (USACA) Under-15 team by 59 runs yesterday at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground.
Opting to take first strike, Demerara posted 144-4 in 30 overs as national u-15 player Ashmead Nedd (38 not-out) led the way with a responsible unbeaten innings. Robin Williams and Alphius Bookie also contributed to Demerara’s cause with knocks of 31 and 21 respectively.
Williams and Sachin Singh (15) got the hosts off to a good start with an opening stand of 47, before the visitors picked up three quick wickets as Demerara slipped to 69-3.
Subsequently, Nedd joined forces with Bookie and the duo took the score to 129, with a solid 60-run partnership. Nedd’s innings was a responsible one that showcased his rich recent form with the bat. It also consisted of four elegant boundaries, showcasing his development as an all-rounder.
Michael Katwaroo took 3-25 to finish as USACA’s chief wicket taker while Sanjay Jonathan Stanley claimed the other wicket that fell. USACA was restricted for a low 85 all-out in 29 overs in their response as spinners Jospice Jones (4-11) and Avin Gangadin (4-14) combined for eight wickets.
