A businesswoman was last night fatally shot while her son was wounded after they were attacked by armed bandits outside their Block 22, Wismar, Linden home.
Dead is Shevon Gordon, called ‘Lizzie,’ 45, who is the co-owner of a drinks mart on Potaro Road just behind the Linden bus park. Her son, Devon Gordon, is currently a patient of the Mackenzie Hospital nursing a gunshot wound to the leg that he sustained while pursuing the men who shot his mother and robbed her of a bag of money.
Police, in a statement, said the attack occurred around 7:30PM as Gordon and her husband, Elon, 48, were about to enter their premises in their vehicle.
Two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, police said, confronted Gordon, who was out of the vehicle at the time. The men demanded a bag with cash that Gordon had in her possession and she resisted and was shot to her body. The men then took the bag and ran away.
According to the statement, the woman’s husband and son pursued the bandits. Devon managed to catch up with the men and a scuffle ensued, during which he was shot to his left thigh. The men then escaped with the money.
Shevon Gordon and her son were taken to the Mackenzie Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
A friend of the family said that they operate a small drinks mart and also sell beverages from their home.
He said that based on what he was told, Gordon and her husband had closed up their business and headed to their home, where the attack occurred. He was also told that when the perpetrators pounced, they grabbed onto a bag Gordon was holding but she refused to let go. He said that they instructed her to let it go and when she did not they shot her.
