Inspired by Surindra Kaneez’s century, St. Stanislaus College opened its 2015 Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/ Brainstreet under-15 campaign with a comprehensive victory over Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO).
Played at the GYO ground yesterday, Kaneez led the visitors to 289 all out in 42.2 overs after hitting a record 183. His innings was the driving force behind St. Stanislaus’ 146-run triumph as GYO managed just 143 in their reply.
Kaneez’s knock was the only headache for the bowlers since the next highest score was 12 made by Eric Singh who batted at number 10. Kaneez survived two chances on 36 and 67.
The left-hander dominated an opening stand of 63 with Shemar Ryan who only contributed eight runs. He then dominated a 77-run, eighth-wicket partnership with Godfrey Taylor who made three.
Kaneez blasted 15 sixes and 12 fours in his knock which saw his century come in 66 balls and 150 off just 98 deliveries.
His innings ended when he miscued a sweep shot off Novindra Persaud and was caught by Chandra Mohan at midwicket. For GYO, Elnathan Sukhnanand and Navindra Persaud led the way with three wickets each. The visitors also benefitted from 62 extras.
GYO’s response was off to a brisk start as they raced to 46 before the first wicket fell. After the loss of that wicket it was a catastrophe for the hosts who never regained momentum and was eventually dismissed in the 43rd over. Number 10 batsman, Keon Williams top scored with 24 as Veeraj Persaud 4-32, Travis Thomas 3-49 and Ezekiel Caines 2-19 ended as St. Stanislaus’ top bowlers.
